Mt. Baldy Hill Climb (Silver Lake Sand Dunes)

May 14th & 15th, 2005

This was Jim's (Better known as "Hump Diddy") first time ever at attempting the Mt. Baldy Hill Climb with his gold metalflake El Lobo style buggy.  He made it 40ft in the 1st attempt and improved to 45ft on the 2nd try in Class I.  Not too bad for the coolest hillbilly in the club.

Lifting the front wheels of the ground, this was Michael's (AKA - B.M.F.) second run at Mt. Baldy.  He ran about 6.7s and finished in 2nd place last year.  The experience must have ridden him of the jitters because he improved to an impressive 4.83s on the 1st run and bettered that with a 4.70s time for the 2nd run.  Unfortunately, a mid-engine slipped into Class G somehow and pushed Michael into 3rd place.

We are proud of both Tubs that represented us during the Hill Climb and look forward to more people competing again this fall.

Memorial Weekend (Silver Lake Sand Dunes)

May 28th-30th, 2005

We didn't have a ton of tubs, but we sure had a tubs of fun.  The lovely lavender tub (owned by Dawn) is no longer a virgin to the sand and her single-carb 1915cc got anywhere she wanted to.  Even made it up Test Hill the first try.  She was very proud of her first born tub.  Michael's green machine is a veteran dune rider.  He just doesn't get where he needs to go, but he gets there fast.

Greg and Missy also had a great time with there freshly made-over tub.  There tub has a spunky 1915cc motor that he wasn't afraid to dig into the sand with.  Occasionally, there would be some trouble timing the stop at the top of the hill, but it's all included with good times.

Jim's Buggy Show & Swap Meet (Nashville, MI)

June 11, 2005

WOW!  We had a swarm of good lookin' buggies at this show.  The cereal city tub club had 3 of its members bring home 4 trophies.  Way to clean house.

Don took 'Best Overall' at the show.  There are so many nice buggies from our club and in the area, but you can't disagree with this award.  His highly customized, slammed to the floor, topped off with Centerline rims makes this beauty a one-of-a-kind.

Jay has owned this buggy for less than a year.  In fact, it wasn't too long ago his buggy was in primer.  This was his first buggy show that he's entered, and he brought home 'Best Paint'.  The pictures do no justification.  This buggy has not a flaw on it.

Michael also helped clean house at the show.  He took home 'Best Tub' and 'Best Motor'.  At the rate he has been going the last year or so, he might have to dedicate an entire room as the trophy room at home.  This hot rod is an original 'B.C. Buggy' with original gel-coat.  The 'Best Motor' award was easy to understand with it's power and beauty.

  Michigan Bug Out (Milan, MI)

July 30, 2005

The Bug Out turned out to be a great day.  Excellent weather for racing, showing, and swapping parts.

Michael now has a green buggy with brown floor pans as he learned he could fly for the first time.  Good thing there are wheelie bars, or who knows how high he would go.  Although he didn't win the big bucks, he had a blast showing off for the crowd.

Brian showed them VW guys what serious drag racing was all about.  He broke out by 0.0002 seconds in the 1st round.  He did the $20 buy-back and never did look back again until the finals.  There he drew the fatal red light, but you can't be disappointed with a runner-up trophy and $250 in his 1st all VW event.  There were originally about 20-24 cars in the Pro-class.

CSCDRA VolksBash (Martin, MI)

August 21, 2005

Groupwise, there was a much better turnout for the Martin event when compared to the Bug Out at Milan, but overall there were less people.  It was again a great day to race, enter the car show, and/or reserve a vendor spot.  The tub club represented in all of the classes entered.

Don had too much fun during the burn-out as he ended up having a tranny that was stuck in 2nd gear.  That didn't stop him from having fun.  He hobbled her over to the car show and won 'Best Motor', adding to his award from Jims Buggy show earlier this year.  Good thing it wasn't 'Toughest Tranny'.

Greg was finally able to get the 'Bug Doctor' out on the track, but he had to steal 2180cc motor from his sandrail.  His big motor was not dialed-in yet.  Unfortunately, the fun ended when he broke an axle in time trials.  Next year the Doctor will be ready to eat some V8's.

Brian is turning into a drag racing machine.  He went to semi-finals in the pro-class without having to participate in the buy-back.  He is already developing a reputation in the Midwest after only two VW events.

Michael, Hmmmm.  Do his front wheels ever touch the ground?  No one expects his ride to launch like it does, so it is a great crowd pleaser and very camera friendly.  He had bad luck with lining up against people who happen to make perfect runs both times.  Watch out for this guy once he gets out of the 1st round.

Jim had his 1st drag race at this event, and his 1776cc motor was running strong 9.90 second passes in the 1/8th mile.  In the picture above, he gave this guy a head start twice as he beat him in consecutive rounds on his way to the finals in the street class.  Hopefully, he is hooked now.

Ben seemed to have a problem with keeping his front end on the ground.  He still made it to the 2nd round, and if it wasn't for a mishap by the guy calling his dial-in he would have made it to the 3rd round (semis) with Brian.  He still won an award.  Any guesses? ...Best Wheelie.
